Parental involvement is an integral part of the cooperative education.  Parents work closely with students in the classroom to help support new skill development, extending children’s knowledge, encourage creative play, and contribute to a positive community environment.

 PARENT HELPER GUIDELINES:

  • Arrive 15 minutes before school and stay after class for clean-up and daily assessment.
  • Sign in as a working parent for school records.
  • Give the children your full time and attention. Please save cell phones and adult conversation for the end of the day.
  • Be responsible. Smoking and alcohol are not permitted on school grounds.  No hot drinks are allowed in the classroom.

Your child will be proud to have you at school for the entire day, but at the same time find it hard to share you. It is fine when supervising an activity to sit next to your child and involve them first.

Most importantly, please stay home if you are sick. If you are unable to work on your scheduled work day, you are responsible for finding a substitute or trading days with another parent. Other parents are always willing to help out.

Please make arrangements for other siblings or non-enrolled children on your working days as they may not accompany parents to the classroom on your workdays.

Before working in the classroom, you will need to watch the Health and Safety Video and fill out the application for the Bellingham School District Volunteer Program.
